That is like most things out there today simply NOT true. The Salt Water Registry has has NOTHING to do with lower limits and shorter seasons. And the "other states " you mention with a SWL do NOT have better regulations or longer seasons on the species that are native to NJ. The main issue as stated for years here is NJ does NOT yet have an avenue to process SWL fees like FW so as you always say follow that money and the NJ SWL fees would disappear into oblivion with zero dollars going to Rec SW fish. Again getting sick and tired of posting about the differences here in NJ.

Was on a headboat lately that shall remain nameless.. I confirmed sea bass limit with mate, and reply was “yeah we don’t care”. Every seabass went into a cooler.

On top of that, guy next to me purchased seabass from the MATES. Was told mates do this because not enough in tips

This is not unique to this boat/ seen it plenty of times elsewhere

So why do we bother with a Saltwater Registry, the whole thing seems useless and good for nothing. Poaching is rampant, but make sure to sign up, what a joke.

Its pretty simple Andy, The Feds mandated by Law that every costal state had to implement either a SWL or a Salt water registry. Since NJ would not create a fund for SWL $$ to go into except the General Fund" the choice was easy and logical to opt for the Registry!

This has been beat to death

Feds mandated a 15 dollar salt water registry or a state license/registry to obtain numbers of those actually fishing .

Nj couldn’t agree on a license fee , so instead went with a free registry .
If you don’t want to sign up for the free registry , you can opt to pay 15 bucks to the Feds to allow you to meet the requirements .

While I also would like to see NJ have a saltwater license so we get the perks from it Nj bureaucrats won’t push for it because they don’t give a shit about funds they can’t get access to .

. Nj fisherman are the cheapest in the country .
Don’t do a dam thing to protect their interests from groups who would love to see them taken away .
Then are the loudest cry babies AFTER it’s too late .

.

Not all fishers are cheap but majority dont get too involved $$ or directly or involved at all when it comes to Rec Management issues. Played Golf yesterday with my fishing buddies and YES we talk to each other like that but as most guys know there is no disrespect just debate and we all stay friends no matter differences of opinion. Most of the guys on my fishing trips we went to kindergarten together and come from all walks of life but have discussions and get over any differences as quick as the discussions.

Sounds like a pretty shitty boat, especially for the fact that you cannot sell fish in NJ. If the mates aren't making enough tips, they are either on the wrong boat or just shitty mates.
