Default is tuna fishing that bad?

know it still a bit early in the season, but from what i've been seeing and hearing tuna fishing once again appears to be horrible (unless fishing extreme southern canyons). i just don't get it anymore. people spends thousands to go out, catch 4-5 tuna and everyone is giving them "high fives"! huh?

Is this fishery practically dead off of NJ? The strong fall chunk bite has never materialized with any consistency over the last 4-5 years...with the exception of a good trip here or there.

Tuna fishing is nothing how it used to be, however
Multi species while out there helps fill the cooler
Offers chances at different species and a lot of fun!

Agreed. Fishing multiple species is the way to go. Freddy is an expert at making that happen.

I have not been on a lights out trip in NJ in several years. Matter of fact, much rather go to cape cod. Much more consistent

I guess I'll chime in here made a bunch of trips this year and they were all pretty good between 7-15 fish per trip not all jumbos but the last couple of trips we had yellows to 70 lbs all in the northern canyons I'm out of manasquan there is a ton of bait in all the canyons I've been in this year I think were going to have a great second half of the tuna season!!

As Muldune said, several 100+ tuna catches in the 90's---before the 3 fish (YFT) limit was imposed...three yellows are enough for me on a trip...Now birds, that's another story but three of them are enough. I'm still eating last year's catch(& loving it!)
