Fish Monger wins the Elks fluke tournament for the 2nd time
Capt Jerry again proved why he is one of the premier charter boat captains in NJ.We had our return crew of Bill Pissara, Uncle Henry, Ryan, and the 3 Jersey Boys Jimmy, Dave, and John. Capt Jerry and mate Trevor were also fishing. This has been a tough fluke season to date, but Jerry has been searching and finally found a body of fish in the last couple of days. While many of the other boats in the tournament were struggling to catch fish, Jerry had us on them all day. Bill has been up in Nantucket sharpening his big fluke skills and it showed today. It was around 8 am and I looked to the back of the boat to see Bill's rod bent over and his rod tip pulsing to a large fluke. It wasn't long before the fish was netted and Jerry was yelling BAM! It was a good one, measuring 29.5 inches and bouncing on the boga between 9-10. Bill was putting on a show with regular keepers and he then pulls and another big one of just less than 7. Every one was busy catching and we put around 40 keepers ORL and many shorts in the boat. Despite a little trouble before we were able to launch, we ended up having a fantastic day. We ended up in a tie for first place with another 9.6# fluke. I can't thank Capt Jerry enough for the effort that he puts into every trip. A great captain, a great crew, and a great day.
