Default King Salmon, Rainbows, Brown Trout...and more Rainbows and Browns: Weekend Report

Saturday (5/13/17):

I was planning to striper fish Saturday, but with the high winds and rain those plans were cancelled. I needed a plan b, but with the deluge of rain the local prospects weren't looking good. I made a last minute decision to run to Lake Ontario to get in on some of the brown trout action that had been going on. My friend decided to join and we were off.

Got to the marina around 1pm, and headed out and fished until the evening. Though the bite wasn't on fire we had steady action landing two kings, a big fat rainbow and 6 browns. I ended up with a king, the big rainbow and four browns. I kept the king and released all the trout. My friend had the big brown of the day at 10lbs. Best of all, it was flat calm and no rain to speak of.

Turned right around and headed home once we hit the dock.

Sunday (5/14/17)

I headed out in the afternoon to a NJ river to continue the weekend goal of chasing brown trout. River conditions made wading quite the workout, but the trout were more than happy to cooperate. I ended the afternoon landing 9 wild browns to 17" and two rainbows to around 17" as well. Pulled hooks on a couple of fish as well. Had a bit of a jaws moment with a giant beaver. I never saw one this close, and he was a big animal (30 to 40lbs). As I went to walk past him, he disappeared into the thigh deep water. As I walked past where I last saw him, I prepared myself to have a giant rodent chewing on my leg. Fortunately, he was in a good mood and let me pass unimpeded.
