Default Spring in the winter

Beautiful day today (2/25/17), hard to sleep in late. Had to give the river a shot and glad I did. Got two smallies in about 20 minutes. The wind began to pick up and I figured it was time to go. Only got picture of one but it was the larger of the two.

Any tips for a noob targeting them? Next time it warms up im thinking about focusing on smb, but idk if fishing the upstream parts is a good idea, like around lamington.

Find a hole and you'll find the smallmouth. Water is still very cold. Fish slow.

Does it matter what part of the river? Such as upstream in the lamington? I was thinking they'd exclusively prefer the main channels for deeper water.

Very nice smallmouth for cold weather! They prefer rocky sections of rivers. partly because of all the crayfish and invertebrates they feed on there.
