Default Finally something report-worthy!

I don't know about the rest of you, but fall fishing has sucked for me this year, hence my recent lack of reports. I hoped that a trip to the Raritan River this afternoon could help me to get something going. I set up shop under Duke falls, and tagged a cookie-cutter smallie in short order. After a few swings and misses, I set the hook into a decent fish. Imagine my surprise when I found that it was a walleye! It wasn't a pig, but it fought well on the ultra light. I wrapped the day up by catching a few crappie, which I haven't seen in the river in years. Glad to see they are still around! All in all not a super day, but it's a lot better than I've been doing lately.

nice fish. fall freshwater has been pretty decent, though the warm weather stints def mess stuff up. saltwater has been great, haven't been in fresh for a week or so, getting back on it this week.

Nice fish man! Smallmouth in rivers is tough when it gets this cold at night i bet.
That spot at night would be real good for walleye!

As always, LOVE the video. As far as the fall fishing for me, the minute it seems to really start picking up, it goes flat. I fish Manasquan pretty frequently, in one week I picked up a 5lb smallie (My PB) a 4, and 2 3-1/2lb'ers, NO big Largies at all, then the next week it's like I never fished the place before...LOL The only thing I can come up with is the water temp has not CONSISTENTLY dropped, it would go from 56 degree's to 51, then the next week bump right back to 56-57.They have not been chasing the bait like they should befor winter. With that said, I just dont think it turned over yet all the way (sounds crazy) but now with this cold front, I give it till the end of the week, and I bet we start seeing better fishing... Only Problem for me is, Squan, closes the Boat ramp next Wednesday.... LOL I will just hop to another lake, shit, I will fish till the water fezzes over...LOL PS... Just last week, I picked up another 5LB Smallie, I not complaining, but the LM fishing has not really been where it should.

Nice job Lard. I've gotten crappie way downstream right above the fish ladder on small jigs and comparable rapalas. The canal is loaded with them too especially when the temps drop. Find a downed tree or brush pile and it should be game on! Crappies up high and yellow perch down low!
