Default Sunday on Pines Lake

As many on this forum can attest, one does not turn down an invitation to fish Pines Lake. Ever. So a buddy of mine who lives there invited me for Sunday afternoon. It was a surprising slow bite but we managed a few bass and some chunky perch. One other guy we talked to got skunked. Was also surprised on how few people were out there when it was 75 degrees. Marked plenty of fish. The attached slob bass was the highlight. BTW, what does the survey say, is this a Larry or a Smallie? It looks an awful lot like a Smallie and I thought Pines only had LMB. I didn't have my measuring tape and scale handy but he measured about two and a half beer bottles, end to end.

Water temps ranged from 57 to 66, mostly steady at 59. I marked 43 feet as the deepest near to the dam. Do they stock with trout or would they just end up getting gorged by Mr. Pike? That depth could certainly support put-and-take and even holdover Rainbows as Shepherd Lake is not much deeper.

All in all, a nice day and we got off the lake just before that torrential rain came down. Tight linez y'all and Happy Halloween!
