We rented a house on the beach on LBI the week on July 2. I'm looking for advice on surf fishing. I've fished the surf many times in the Carolinas but I'm new to LBI. I'm bringing a kayak for the bay. I'm also considering an in shore shark charter. I'm a newcomer to LBI and any advice for a novice salt water fisherman is appreciated.

I would get on a party boat at Barnegat if you wanted to catch fish - or fish the jetty at the inlet. Surf fishing on the beach is hit or miss this time of year

Thanks for the info but I don't like party boats. I would rather sit on the beach catching the occasional dog fish. Thanks again

Good kayak fishing but you must launch at the northern tip by Barnegat Light.
Caught some quality fluke there first light before the INSANE daily boat traffic ruins it. The beach is hit or miss until late August when croakers/spots can be had at night - good bass in the fall. |

I'll be down there also, some of the beaches are closed to fishing between 9 and 5. It might be 10 to 5. Several non sponsor boats in Barnegat Light. We fish on a certain one all the time. PM me and I can tell you the name if you are interested. The Jetty also has some good action if the blues are running.

You can always throw metal or a bucktail or swimmer or popper in the inlet and have a shot at any number of types of fish. I've had the best luck at night for blues, stripers and weakfish (much more so back in the day). You can also drop crabs or clams in the rocks and come up with blackfish, sea bass or a sheepshead - best at slack tide.
Otherwise from the beach, light tackle bucktailing with gulp for fluke is always fun with a decent chance for a keeper. Try around any rockpile, small jetty or structure. And while the surf action for striped bass hasn't exactly been stellar, I caught my biggest striped bass ever one night on a bunker head in August near North Beach. |

All the above is good advice. Another option is to rent a boat at BL or Beach Haven and try for fluke. There's also boat rentals at the causeway but it's pretty much just crabbing in that area.

Thanks guys. What about inshore shark charters? I'm guessing he targets browns, etc. Is everyone familiar with them?

Later in the summer you can catch them right off the beach
