Default Canyon Tuna 9-20 - Big Jamaica Report

Canyon Report 9/20
Another Good Canyon Trip!
The Saturday night canyon trip was another good one.
We picked slowly through the night catching 50 to 90lb yellowfin and a couple of longfin while making 2 drifts.
It looked like an early morning bite would develop. The bites were coming closer together and we were reading the tuna good under the boat.
The fishing suddenly slowed down until we had another hook-up.
The anglers reel began to screem out, and the battle started.
It wasn't long before we realized why the fishing slowed down when the 200lb mako made 4 spectacular leaps before breaking the line.
As the sun rose we caught a couple more tuna but, it didn't feel like a good bite would develop.
We decided to head to the area we slammed them the day before.
As we approached the area the northerly winds were picking up.
We made two stops that produced nothing.
It was time to go home but we gave it one more try and it paid off!
We ran over a big school and it was instant action.
We were drifting rapidly in the stiff breeze but, the hungry yellowfin and false albacore followed us for over a mile for the next hour.
When it finally slowed down we had put another 42 yellowfin in the boat, in one hour!
A few were caught on jigs but most were caught on bait today.
It looks good for upcoming trips.
More tuna are moving into the canyon every day.
The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail on 31hr trips at 7AM every Tuesday and Thursday.
