Default Thank You, Congratulations and Wow - MidAtlantic Recap

Thank you to all our Sponsors – CAT, Simrad, Greg Poole CAT, Ransome CAT, SeaKeeper, Penn, OceanLED, Salt Life, Deep Ocean Apparel, and our newest Under Armor. Thank you more to Dick & Rick Weber for putting on a great tournament and for being one of the best folks to deal with in this industry – we can’t wait for The 25th Anniversary MidAtlantic in 2016. And once again, thank you to Sunset Marina and all of the folks on C Dock for making us feel at home and for another great week at Teasers.

Congratulations to ALL the Winners at this year’s MidAtlantic Tournament – it’s an honor to fish with and against the greatest crews on the East Coast. Specific shout out to all the first place winners – Texas Tea, Makara, Plane Simple, Bar South & Blue Runner.

Wow is all I can think about with respect to our results and our Team. For the fourth year in a row we were lucky and fortunate enough to place into some major money in one of the East Coast’s Major Tournaments – including a three year in a row run at the MidAtlantic putting us at over $1.1 million in tuna winnings in 4 years.
The Canyon Runner Team – this year headed up by Capt. Deane Lambros at the helm of our 48 Viking - enjoyed another very fun, very eventful and very successful week at the MidAtlantic Tournament. On the first day of fishing on Monday, Capt. Deane Lambros along with Capt. Craig Angelini, Capt. Kevin Muller and newest team member John Lavelle on the rod caught a fat 199 pound big-eye around 1pm in the Lindencole Canyon. The fish ate, what else is new, a Joe Shute 3oz Green Goblin fished on the long rigger and the Penn 50VSW put the screws to it and the fish was leadered and gaff by Craig and Kevin in short order. Capt. Craig for the second year in a row handpicked and called out the winner lure.

The only hick up the entire week came when our GPLink and CAT on board monitoring system started sending us a couple engine error codes and we had a mild heart attack when we couldn’t power up to come home as the CAT system de-rated itself until we could clear the code. Capt. Deane and Adam, with the help of the GPLink system quickly diagnosed that it would be no issue resetting the system and running and we did just that and were able to come home at normal cruise – making it to the scales in time. Big thanks to all the folks at GPLink and CAT allowing us to make that call on the fly and get home.

Then the reel heartache came every night from 5-9pm watching to see if our fish would hold – we had 1st for a short time. But the crew on the Plane Simple took care of that on Tuesday. Congrats to that crew – great job once again to you guys continuously seem to place in the money time and time again – and thanks so much for picking up the tab at Teasers Friday night! We look forward to having you out with us as soon as you can find a day.
The final day saw the most heartache as our friends on the Going in Deep made us watch as they weighed in no less than 6 big-eyes – lucky for us our fish still held – and we could finally breathe. What makes the MidAtlantic by far the best tournament for tuna fisherman is the fact that our 2nd place tuna was actually worth more - $223,495 - than the second place white marlin and the second place blue marlin. Moreover – there was over $1 million in winnings just for tuna alone. You can bet we’ll have both Canyon Runner boats back in the 25th Anniversary MidAtlantic next year.

In the end, this was a huge team effort as it extended well beyond the 4 crew members on the boat – in particular Capt. Phil Dulanie and Carl Geiger have to be mentioned as with 2 boats running full time it takes all of our guys to keep the boats and the tackle in tip top shape. We couldn’t even tell you who rigged the lures, serviced the reel or did the last filter and fluids change on the boat as everyone pitches in as a team. One of the best thing I can say about Capt. Deane Lambros is that he was the first to say make sure we mention everyone who helped us out this year making this happen. The best thing I can say about him is he’s been the Canyon Runner’s secret weapon for several years now – Secret’s Out!
