Default Shore fishing Point Pleasant Area

Hi All, new here but not to fishing. I have been making an annual trek from NC to Point Pleasant for Thanksgiving for ummmm, 25 years now. Vising the inlaws. I have fished the surf there for strippers for at least 15 of those. The last few years have been disappointing though.

How is fishing lately around Manasquan inlet south??

mike...

I say go further north...dollar bills for strippers and plugs, plastics, and bucktails for the stripers. If you stay around the inlet, small metal for hickory shad. Not bad on light tackle. Good luck and enjoy the holiday!

Welcome Mike and some good advice above.... If I were you and had some energy, I would not be tied to any one spot in the surf. These fish pop up here and there and could be in any given place at any given time.

I would jump in the car, use your GPS to drive up from Manaquan staying as close to the beach as possible and stop along the way to look for birds close into the beach. If none then move on.

Enjoy our fine state, Happy Thanksgiving and let us know how you do.

Welcome to NJFishing.com. Usually this time of the year, the surf is very productive. This year, something has changed. The usually plentiful sand eels have decided to stay in deeper water and not along the beaches. That makes fishing very spotty especially in the surf. A few fish are being caught here and there. It was good a few weeks ago in some areas and only for short bursts when the bunkers were in close. Enjoy your time up here in N.J. If you are in Point Pleasant, the areas to the south are still recovering from Sandy but many beaches are open all the way to Island Beach. You just have to drive, stop and look. This is not a typical fall fishery for us. Early and late are best but there are no sure things. Fishing to the north gives you more access but again, no areas are drawing the picket lines of fishermen that you might have seen in the past. That should tell you what has or has not been going on. I hate to say it but you might do better in the NC surf. Our fall fish have been streamlining their way south and passing us by. I wish I had better news. Don't let it stop you, but don't raise your hopes too high.

Sad to hear but it's been this way more than a few years now. As for fishing. It gives me something to do the first few days of the week. If I catch something... Bonus.

Ya, I was in my yak the 15th fishing out of Bear Creek near Swansboro NC. I caught a hand full of short specks and a couple short flounder. It was the first time I was there. I got my yak earlier this year and have tried a few places at the NC coast.

I was told it was not worth bringing my kayak. Not much in the bays and creeks. True??

just put my yak away for the winter - the weather was awful.
up until last week i was togging from the yak with great results but i'm up north by raritan bay and staten island.

Bass in the surf has been terrible for me for the past several years.

It's good when there is bait in the wash - which hasn't been there.

Fish chased rainfish onto the beach near the old Thunderbird Friday morning for half an hour and only 1 clam fisherman was there.

The drive is complete. No records were set as the smokeys were out in force. Construction in DC and the NJ turnpike are about done. Nice. We will leave Saturday to avoid the drive from hell on Sunday.

Got family stuff Sunday but Mon - Thursday noon are mine. Joy...

Mike
