Default Did The Albies Pass Us By?

We may be in the midst of the best bonita blitz in 20 years and while they are certainly fun to catch and great eating they can't hold a candle to the albies in the fight department. But where are the big schools we normally see zooming around the boat? There are a smattering here and there, bluefish boats at the reefs will get a couple, more at the lumps but still dominated by bonita 10 to 1, that is, if you can get by the annoying chub macks that grab your bait at a dogfish like frequency.

Rhode Island has the albies thick now, did they pass us by? I confess to not knowing their migratory patterns but I would think here first, no?

Tom, for the most part they have been close to the beach in the pm pushing the bait in. Yes they have been spotty but they are coming, they are just following the bait.

I am sorry buddy but it is a pet peeve of mine, it is BONITO, not BONITA!

I too will take Bonito over Falsies because I do enjoy a fresh cooked meal, but man those falsies hit and momentarily make you think you have something else on the line. love them both!

thank you!! It drives me insane. Bonita is what the guys down south call our false albacore. Not to be confused with our atlantic bonito. I would much rather catch falsies but one cut into them and you will quickly see why bonito are rather tasty and falsies are dreck. I hope we see the albies push into our area in numbers, man can they burn a drag!
