Default Another awesome tagging project at PSFL

Just got back from our fourth tagging trip with the Atlantic Tuna Project at Panama Sportfishing Lodge and this trip was nothing short of spectacular. 20 anglers from around the country and Canada participated and we tagged 70 tuna,we would have tagged more but we ran out of tags!
In addition to the tuna we also caught Dorado, wahoo, cuber snappers and many other inshore species. We had many fish over 100#s up to 170 that was weighed(we did take a few for the table).
The biggest fish on a popper that was tagged was caught by Geoff Taylor (61") and he won a new Black Hole Cape Cod jigging rod donated by Black Hole USA.
The highlight of the trip actually came the first day when one of the tuna that was hooked suddenly ran at the boat where it was promptly tagged, but before it was released the crew saw why,a big blue marlin wanted that 40-50# tuna. They tried everything they had but the marlin wasn't interested and after a few minutes the quick thinking mate free gaffed the tuna as it wouldn't leave the safety of the boat. As soon as it was released with a hook in it the marlin ran it down and ate it but unfortunately it never came tight, but it did provide some incredible video that I will post when I get a copy.
A huge thank you to our sponsors STORMR,JigSkinz and Black Hole USA as well as Panama Sport fishing lodge for their continued support of promoting tag and release in Panama.
We were also fortunate to have Ian Carlo Rovira owner of Panama Fishing Magazine aboard for three days and the trip will be featured in the next issue.
Next years trip is already filling up and looks to be even bigger than this year. If anyone is interested in joining please Pm me and I will give you all the info.
Thanks for looking guys
