good point and also for the ice guys goin out this year, dont let fish flop on the ice, their gills freeze and eyeballs too

Definitely a good post! I see alot of supposed 'Pros' doing this all the time. Not as bad to do to a LMB but smallies definitely cannot handle this type of handling!
The other common death sentence many anglers commit is the gill grab, particularly on any trout/salmonid species. Take a look at any of the popular salmon/steelhead sites for the pics of big steelies with fingers in their gills and captions reading 'release to fight another day' et al. Ehh, not likely. |

Much grreed with dave...The further stay away from ANY fishes gills the better off the fish are....Get a cradle instd....that way threre is a near 0 mortality rate...Just couple cents worth
