Question The mighty elusive striped bass

So it's almost the fall season for striped bass and unfortunately for me it's the most difficult fish to catch. I have been promising my son for years I would get him into the stripers but every weekend they elude me and make me break a promise. I'm actually chartering a boat this weekend with a well known captain to teach me what I'm doing wrong and technique to use when going for bass. If anyone wants to chime in and throw me a bone I could really, really use help. I hail from Morgan and fish the raritan bay and sandy hook area. Not sure why but i can catch any other species but this one. If you see a 275 aquasport explorer out their with plain white outboard cowlings that's me, trying to find the bass!!!

There are schoolies taking Yo Zuris (black and silver) at higher tides in the sedges at the confluence of the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers.
Lots of fun on light tackle.
