Default Paramount Monday Marathon

Went out with a good crowd today including Blackfish Doug. Steamed up north for some porgies because sea bassing has been a bit mixed. Had a pretty steady pick for much of the day with some keeper sea bass thrown in the mix along with lots of wee ones. At slack tide the fishing slowed and Captain Dennis looked for a few sea bass. A few sea bass were found but most were shorts. We gave it hell all day and those who fished hard and listened to the mates' advice had a pretty decent catch. Those who fished whole clams on 3/0 hooks, not so much.

I wound up with 32 porgies and 2 keeper sea bass. Blackfish Doug had 23 porgies. Pool winner had a 2 3/4lb sea bass and 5 sea bass and 14 porgies for the day. On guy down back had to have 25-35 porgies and a few bass, he went to sleep before I could talk to him on the way in. Porgies were mostly mediums in the 10 1/2"-12" range with a few a bit bigger along with the usual small ones too. no love clamming for bass at the boat this morning. Didn't target fluke because I didn't want to throw back a heartbreaker.

My wife and I went out Sunday with the same results. lots of people fishing 3/0 and whole clams for porgies, sea bass was tough with a quick bite at first drop of the horn on each spot then nothing. tossed all the porgies back as all were 8-10" and I like the bigger ones to fillet. high light was Dolores catching a 4lb sea bass and winning the pool.
Every other boat we saw was railed and not pull much in.

I tossed back a few under 10". I usually don't even keep them under 11" but Captain Dennis wanted a fish fry.

A good honest report not like some of the highlighted reports that I have reading lately.

My son Jason went out on a NS boat from Keyport on Sunday. He and a buddy combined for @250 porgies (each only keeping their limit). Most around the 14" mark. Boat never went further east than the point of the Hook.

Thanks for the honest report. I fished at opening day on paramount. The boat was full. We only focused on seabass and searched big area. I was high hook with 7 keeper seabass. People near me only had less than 3 keepers. I saw another party boat in the same area, but he reported a lot of limits on the boat. Maybe he found the honey hole later?

No one has been catching limits of Sea Bass anywhere. Kirk often gathers our info for our reports when he is on the boat. Never any BS in our reports. Kirk will always give you the straight stuff as will we (how many boats let a customer gather the information from the other passengers for the report)

Thanks for fishing with us.

Porgies saved the day but they are NOT what we want to fish for. Sea Bass is the goal but in the end catching fish is what needs to be done. The first couple days we had to give 100% for Sea Bass, that is what people want. After a couple days of striking out we had no choice but to mix things up, gotta put some fish in the bucket.

Eventhough I love catching porgies on 15lb casting gear, I have to admit a few more sea bass would have been nice for dinner. But it was much more fun catching a half cooler of fish than fishing 11 1/2 hours for 4 or 5 keeper sea bass. Plus a few people became porgy converts after feeling the pull they give versus ling or sea bass. Hopefully the sea bass start to concentrate a bit and we can do half and half days on sea bass and porgies.

From my experience on paramount, all capt's reports were honest.
