At least they're honest about it. That's too bad though.

Only a 30 min battle on a charter boat where you can maneuver out of any trouble, hope that captain had a damn good reason for touching that rod. The angler sounds like he's been around the block before. Too bad.

I was thinking the same. They said it didn't seem like that big of a fish. Must have been a very sluggish fish to land a super-cow in 30 minutes.

I guess comparing their typical fish in the hi 300# range to low 400# is about the same.

Captain/ deckhand blew it because he likely did not know the IGFA rules. At least it did not get thrown in a cooler for racoons to eat over night. LOL

Did the tourist pack this monster tuna in his suitcase and leave?

Every fish is different . How many time have we all caught a large fish thinking that it was considerably smaller or a smaller fish that kicked our butts ? I feel the IGFA is just a Rich Boys Private Club . Looking at how so many line class records are set it's a Rich Man's Game . It's not tie a hook on and just go fishing like most of us do it's Hire the right Crew and throw enough money at it and you will get your name in the book. Just sit in the chair and run the fish down. My hats off to the Crews who are adept at catching these fish and getting the right bite . Don't know how many records were disqualified on Long Range party Boats due to the nature of fishing from a platform that is dead in the water/anchored/stand up tackle. I heard that the IGFA might change some of the rules to address these conditions.
