Default 5 pike in 5 casts !!!

There are not many fresh water fishing days for pike that you can call "silly fishing". I have had many salt water days for stripers, blues, albies and fluke that were just a fish every cast, but for pike.....never. But this morning was just plain silly.

I tried the first spot for 2 hours with 1 pike at about 32", and this was the spot that I "thought" was going to be the best.......wrong! Loaded the kayak back in the car and went to spot #2. This was a good choice, I landed 5 pike in an hour from 8", to the best of the day at 34". I did miss one other that looked better, but lost it at the kayak trying to land it.

With dinner plans for the afternoon, I still wanted to try another spot that was great last summer, but with 4 trips this year without a pike, I didn't feel too good.

WOW, was I wrong !!!! As I made my way to the area, my first cast landed a nice 28" pike, but what was more amazing, is that there was a monster pike that followed it to the kayak, trying to hit the same spinner bait that was in the smaller pikes mouth !! I spent another 15 minutes trying for him with no luck.

Another 10 minute paddle to a small slow moving water spot that was just crazy. I landed 5 pike in 5 casts and on the 6th cast, missed a good strike. I was almost laughing after the first 3 fish thinking there is no way there could be another pike in this hole. I wound up with at least 12 pike at that spot and lost a few others.

I am ot sure what the difference was between today and 2 weeks ago, but all I know is that I can't wait to get back there!!! Most of the pike today were all close to 30" with only one being picture worthy.
