![]() Been a good year so far for me. Did well jigging before the ice in January for Walleye and Crappie on the state's big lakes. Shifted to the rivers in February and March and had some banner days. One nice three week stretch where the Pike were AVERAGING over 30" with most in the 33"-36" range, nice double digit days. Landed nice Pike to 36", Smallies to 18", Carp and even a 21" river Walleye. Then turned our attention to the Striper run and we wacked them on topwater lures in 45 degree water with double and triple headers, my buddies killing it too. Ice out came and started nailing Crappie and Yellow Perch with a surprise juvenile Muskie kayak style. Pike died down, temps warmed and got my a$$ back to the big lakes for Walleye, Hybrids and the latest, my best catch of the year 45" Muskie. Can't wait to see what the next 6 months hold, hopefully a few more personal bests.
Anyone else? ![]() ![]() ![]()

![]() My year started off great on the ice with almost 50 pike in the first 2 weekends including a few over 36", the fattest pike I've caught at 35" and almost 16lbs, and my new PB 43". It slowed down after that when I started trying to catch muskie. I put in well over 100 hours with only a handful of fish to show for it and no monsters, but I did manage to get 1 nice looking 37" tiger. I ended my ice season where I started up in New England. My first day out I landed a 36" pike and I was actually able to fish the same lake IN APRIL and pulled out a 37" fish my final weekend.
1st of the season 36" ![]() PB 43" ![]() Fat 35" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This carp season has been the worst I've had in years but definitely one of the most fun. It's been fun because I've shared the bank with dozens of great fisherman. I've brought some NJFers to my spots and witnessed 4 people catch their PB freshwater fish. Dale was first with his 20lb+ beast, then Chris with a 30 on his first day carp fishing, then Ogy with his PB 30.5 pounder, and last but not least my buddy Mike from CT with a 49.5 pound grass carp just a few pounds shy of the NJ record! ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by saxmatt; 06-08-2013 at 04:28 PM.. |

![]() My carp season has been filled with ups and downs. The last week in April and first few days in May were the best. I caught well over 100 carp in about a week including 5 30s. The biggest was 38.14lbs and the big 4 went for 136.10lbs. After the first week in May I had to deal with the rain, car problems, and the spawn so fishing hasn't been good of late. I still have caught over 300 carp this year averaging around 15lbs with almost 50 over 20lbs so I can't complain. I even caught a few decent channel cats including one over 10lbs, but I caught over a hundred small ones which gets annoying when you're trying to catch carp. All in all it's been a solid year so far. Hopefully I can pull a few nice ones out the 2nd half of the year.

![]() Beautiful colors on that 3rd one Mark. Looks like the 2nd one got grabbed by something when it was younger.

![]() Thanks Matt. The marks on the 2nd are spawning scars. It was a post-spawn fish. The 3rd is a 42 inch girthy tiger. It has some weird thing going on with it's gills, but other than that it's a beauty. That fish popped the cherry in my boat and the fat 46 on top was #2. I've had a few other fish so far this year, but those were the first two in my boat. Some killer carp up there man. I actually haven't fished carp once this year, was too busy chasing muskies. Think I'm gonna change that next year. Muskies seem to be pretty tough in March and April, rather do some catching.
