Default Offshore Sea Bass Wednesday - Big Jamaica

Space Available for the Wednesday Trip.

2 – 10 Offshore Report

Nemo came and went. At one point the bouy 20 miles South of Fire Island recorded 18’ seas, and I am sure they were larger offshore. Many callers were wondering if the storm would affect the fishing. I told them “since there have been so many fish offshore, and the water so warm, that we may encounter a stronger current and fishing may be a little slower but I was sure we would have a good catch by the end of the day.

It was still a bit windy on the ride out but the seas were behind us so it was not a bad ride at all. When we arrived at the first wreck the readings looked good so I expected to catch fish. The current was strong and all that came up were a few eels and a lone sea bass. My first thought was “we were Nemo’ed”. Normally I would give it a little time and shift around the wreck but, not wanting to waste any time, we moved to another area. (If we had stayed I believe they fishing would have picked up).

When we arrived at the next wreck, we had pretty good fishing despite the very strong current. Experienced fishermen did much better than novices. A number of fishermen were getting close to their limit of sea bass but many did not. It was getting late so we tired another wreck figuring we could stay a little longer if the fishing was good. Here we still had a strong current but the fishing was good all around the boat.

Many double header Sea Bass (even a few triple headers) and some Jumbo porgies were coming in steady. There were also about 8 or 10 weakfish and a few blues caught.
By the time we headed in most passengers had their limits of sea bass and up to 15 porgies each.

The pool winners were:
Melbourne Hutchinson from Trenton NJ with an 8LB Pollock.
Marc Gussen from Closter NJ with a 6.4LB Sea Bass, his limit of sea bass and 10 porgies.
A few of the anglers with limits were:
Kevin Cole with a limit of sea bass and 15 porgies,
Monsky Momongan with his limit of sea bass,
Ron Hirsh from Hamilton NJ with a limit of sea bass, 5 porgies, 6 ling,
Hubert Gadsden from Charlotte NC caught his limit of sea bass.
Ray R. from Newark NJ caught his limit and a number of porgies.

The weather looks good for Wednesday and there is still space available.
The big Jamaica is scheduled to sail offshore every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday leaving 11PM the night before.

We have also added a trip for Monday , Presidents Day sailing 11PM the night before & Thursday February 28th, the last day of Giant Sea Bass fishing for the winter.
