![]() It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I announce that my close friend and "brother" Juan Flores lost his battle with cancer this morning. A devoted family man, a great guy, and an unbelievable fisherman with a heart of gold. Juan was a master of the Jigging/Popping technique of light tackle tuna fishing and I helped him put out several excellent articles on the topic. I am truly grateful for the time I had to spend with him and the excellent fishing adventures we experienced together.....fish on my friend....fish on....Capt. Dave Vollenweider

![]() Wow. I had no idea he was suffering through cancer. Last time I saw him was at the Garden State Show and he looked a line backer and picture of health. So sad to hear this news and am totally shocked.
A great loss to your family as well as to the fishing community. Sorry for your loss and Gob Bless John and the friends and family he left behind. Someone like him leaves a big void.

Never personally met him, but he answered a lot of questions for me and offered some great advice in regards to popping and jigging tuna. My condolences go out to his friends and family.

![]() My condolences to John’s family, friends and to all who had the pleasure to fish with John over the years. I had the honor of having John and his close friends on board my boat on many occasions to target one thing, Bluefin tuna.
It was always comforting as a captain to be taking John out as you knew he would give a 100% effort from start to finish. That kind of physical effort and dedication was unrivaled and one would think he could of beat this as easily as the hundreds of tuna he landed of the years up and down the east coast. To his family and friends my sincere condolences. Rest in peace my friend and thank you for all that you taught us and the many great memories. Capt.
