Default Do you know how to use your EPIRB?

Knowing the correct way to use your Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) can save your life. Use the following tips from the US Coast Guard to make the most of your EPIRB in an emergency:

-Make sure the EPIRB is floating in the water
-Secure the EPIRB to your liferaft or vessel with its lanyard or another line
-Keep the activated EPIRB away from any metal structures (railings, hull, masts, etc.) that can block its signal
-Keep the EPIRB floating in the water for the best chance of being found- EPIRBs do not need to be high out of the water for the signal to be detected.

For more information, check out the Coast Guard Compass website.

Should throw some tips out there on PLB's too. A little different stuff.

Like the test time in the hour, shelf life, floating/non-floating(my McMurdo does not float as sold) etc.

Just a thought.
