Default Clark Reservoir 6/27/12

Hit Clark Reservoir again last night from 7:30 to a lil' after 9 PM. The night before produced just some slab crappie on a Husky Jerk (strange). Last night was a bit different--MUCH better results. Started with a senko under the madison hill rd bridge and pulled a spry lil' 1-1.5 lb'er out--good start. After a few more casts I headed up top to the reservoir where I was greatly rewarded when I switched to a 1/4 oz white spinnerbait. Third cast up top and boom! The fish mauled my lure--she didnt jump once and stayed really deep...as soon as it hit I knew it was a good fish. Rippin' drag in short bursts attempting to stay in the deeper water but I managed to coax her slow and steady to the shoreline. I didnt measure her length but she was easily all of 4 lbs. Awesome... My friend snapped a quick pic, I gave her a smooch and off she swam.

Straightened the arm on my spinnerbait and casted again--this time a bit more to the right of where the last one hit and BOOM! Mauled again on the cast immediately following the release of my last fish! She hit like a freight train but after she settled a bit I knew it wasnt AS big but a nice fish nonetheless. And she was much more acrobatic... After a few jumps I got her to the shoreline where she figured she's jump one more time--and she spit the hook! Luckily she landed literally on my feet so I was able to scoop her up for a photo op. This one was about 2-2.5 lbs. Solid fish. Both fish had FAT guts on them that were packed pretty tight.

I had one more dink after that and then called it a night... It was a good night... Some pics below. Catch em' up!

Nice! Did you try any top waters? I'm wondering if they are still on the top waters like last weekend. I'm hitting it up tonight.

I did try some top water action. And I actually caught a gigantic bluegill on big black hula popper lol... Go figure. A majority of my luck there this year has been on the white spinnerbait, 1/4 oz. I think tonight should be good before this heat sets in... Maybe I'll see you out there. PM me the area you plan on fishing... perhaps we'll cross paths.

Very few backyards along the east side of the lake have back yard property lines that include the lake shore. Most of them have fence lines that are waaay short of the lake. There's decently walked paths back there that have been walked/ridden for quite some time. Several families were out and about last night in their yards with kids etc and NONE of them said a single word to me and my 3 fishing buddies aside from "that's a nice fish" when I pulled my toad out. There's a few houses up much further on the east side that have land that looks like it includes the shoreline but I just suit up in waders and fish it anyway. I've never once been bothered back there.

Nice bowl of fish! Have you tried other parts of the res. or just from the dam up. I live in springfield have to give it a shot.

Well, from the dam up to as far north as I can go before I get tired or it gets too dark to see anything lol. I've fished all areas that are legally accessible. I've caught fish all over the reservoir.

So Jig, you do just throw your wadders on to get to those hard to reach places? This past weekend I was saying to myself I wish I had my wadders.

For the most part, yea. Just be wary of the rapid depth change in some spots. There are several significant drop offs and ledges thru the entire shoreline--and deep holes that are unexpected topographically.

The areas up by Raritan Rd are shallower but the mud can be thick. Tons of pads up there too. It's like a bass hotel!
