Default Pike before work (pic)

I went down to the river this morning having coffee and just looking at the river, and the river looked good even with the heavy rain yesterday morning. I finished my coffee, went home and got the kayak and headed back for less than an hour on the water.

I wound up hooking three and landing two. The first one was pretty good and of course the one that I lost was VERY good, and the last was a small one.

During my second cast of the morning I saw the spinner bait go flying and the line broke. Now I only had about 60 feet of line left on my spool and each cast went just about to the end. After close to 40 pike this year, I think it's time to respool!

Very carefully !!!! LOL I take my kayak down to Myrtle Beach every year and fish every day that the surf is good and the wind is not too bad. I catch small live bait, about 6-8 inches, get about 10 and head out about 1 mile. It takes about 1 minute before a shark is on. Usually sand bar or dusky sharks.

If I can see the hook exposed, I have an 18" hook remover and it's usually pretty easy. The sharks range from 3-7 feet and they are usually pretty tired after pulling me around for up to a half hour. If I can't see the hook, I cut the wire leader as close to the hook as I can, without getting too close to the mouth.
