Last week, on this web-site, I was made aware of the meaning of the word mugging. I laughed. But late yesterday afternoon was no laughing matter. Because I only had a short while to fish I decided to fore-go my waders and fish from the bank. Not ten minutes later some idiot in waders walked upstream across from me and threw a spinner eight feet from my feet. I asked him if he was joking. Apparently he wasn't because the next cast was six feet away. Then I lost it. I told him he had the whole river to fish and to stay out of my little area. He got mouthy with me. I was so furious I told him I would wade across the river with my clothes on and break his rod in half. I can see now how a mugging can get the nicest guys easily bent out of shape. He walked off mumbling but I retained my spot with pride. I eventually caught two rainbows which I released. First time for everything. Like I taught my two sons. There are a**holes all over the place. Just don't act like one or become one. So far, so good.

I usually ask them if they know how to swim. The answer is usually yes, why? And my response is because I am going to throw you I'm the ****n river. They soon walk away.

You want to see mugging? try the Salmon River in NY during salmon season, it's a riot. I was on the river several years back were I saw a confrontation when a local got into it with other fisherman, when I saw the gun on his hip it was time to leave. I saw a guy with 4 huge split shot imbeded in his head from a cast across river, it is not for the squimish,lol.

At least they're going for 30 lb. salmon. Here in NJ it's for 10" hatchery-reared trout.

I love a quick mugging... do it all the time

I slip in undetected, ruin your spot by tangling your line with mine, splashing the water all over and muddying up the water, and taking a piss up stream from you. Nothing I love more than ruining your day.

Seriously, WTF with these guys? NJ is crowded but there is too many places to find "your own spot" and fish. Can be miles of open water and you gotta fish next to me? HAVE NEVER AND WILL NEVER MUGG any follow fisherman...PERIOD Muggers SUCK!
