Had a day off work today so I figured I would try the no branch today. They just stocked so I thought there would be something left! But apparently not!
![]() Started off in Bedminster... nada. Up by the ATT bridge down by the other bridge. The water was really shallow and clear, I could see the bottom in every stop and all I saw is a few suckers. Went off to North Branch under the 22 bridge. Didn't have my waders so I tried a few holes off the bank. There were quite a few people there and did not see one person catch a fish. Regardless, it was a nice time to spend on the river BUT not only did I not catch any fish, I caught a friggin tick! I was in the supermarket, and felt one in my hair.. the little bastard didn't grab on yet so I crushed him. Then I started feeling itchy all around and another one got to me on my stomach! I pulled the F#&%* out with my tweezer before he went in too far.Any tips on how to avoid these little critters? It seems like there's alot of them out there in the area. |

Those locations are very close to my home. Reports were stringer loads from Rt. 22 on opening day, I guess it's fished out. Remember 4H fairgrounds area next time. AT&T area does run shallow, not many holes there, don't forget the Lamington and the Raritan river (Dukes, Robert St, Nevieus etc.)
I try to avoid tall grassy areas if I can, I tuck my socks in my pants and where tall white tube socks (ticks are easy to see against the white) I also got in the habit of checking for ticks while I'm out and about fishing, pausing every so often and giving a quick look, ticks suck !! Thanx for the report !!! |

NB between 22 and 28 is my backyard but it gets slammed with fishing pressure. Last spring getting out at 6 AM on Thursdays after the Weds stocking was usually the most productive and late May was very good in that stretch as most had moved on to other fishing like the ocean.
I missed opening day but was out on that stretch Sunday afternoon. Must have been 8 other guys out there, I didn't see 1 fish caught among them and one guy only had 2 on his stringer and he said he had to work for those 2 fish over a few hours. I managed 1 after almost 2 hours out there and that was the only bite I had. North Branch Park by the 4H as Andy suggested is probably a good bet, it involves a nice walk from the parking lot so you take a lot of the lazy fisherman out of the equation. Maybe I shouldn't be so lazy! ![]() |
