Slamapo lives up to its name!
Gave Eric the MM a call on my way to the 'Po and he decided to meet me there. I was in the water at 7:45 for the 8:00 first cast.
First cast, first fish. Second cast, same result, and so on for the third. Three casts and three fish (all on spinners). Eric showed up around 8:15 and I already had 6! after a while the fish no longer wanted the spinners so it was time to throw some bait. Started with worms, caught a bunch. Switched to eggs, caught a bunch. next were the fat heads and it was non stop game on! Action slowed a little around 11:00 so eric and I went and grabbed some sabretts (natural casing of coarse). Went back to the river and the fish were ready for their afternoon meal. Started with the fat heads and it was insane! by 3:00 my rotator cuffs were screaming and I couldn't make another cast! I ended the opener with 40 brookies including one 3 pound breeder! One of the best openers ever for me. I think Eric has a new favorite secret spot, being that he did just as well! ALL FISH RELEASED UNHARMED

you are not wrong at all. I only started trout fishing when I moved up to ringwood 8 years ago. The ramapo is pretty much the only river I have fished, only because it is 5 minutes away from my house. I don't want to go anywhere else, I may realize I suck Only kidding about not trying new things, I would love to make some plans and try something new. But it is hard to beat the action in my spot on the 'Po!

Re: Slamapo lives up to its name!
After a couple of slow weeks of chasing cod I decided to get out for my first opening day of trout season in 25 years. I woke up late and got a call from the shrimpman, who was kind enough to invite to his favorite spot. I dusted off my old trout stuff but I was not well prepared with old line and no salmon eggs. By the time I got there Shrimp already had caught six. I started off with a panther martin and had fish on for the first seven casts. By this time I had come to conclusion that there were alot of fish here and that the Shrimpman had done me a solid. The action continued thru out the morning with some spurts and slow spots. I caught fish on spinners, worms, power bait, and fat heads. I ended at 1pm and had 35 and lost too many to count. What a start!! A big thanks to the Shrimpman.
