Re: Another Q & A on Free Registry
I have this picture in my mind of a little voice in the Governor's ear, saying, "Please don't sign this bill!" "If you sign it and it works, I am going to look like an idiot."

Re: Another Q & A on Free Registry
I do not want your Opinion. I want to see the NJOA do something productive for the fisherman they represent.

Re: Another Q & A on Free Registry
we are taxed enough already! The ocean does not belong to anybody! I can understand the freshwater tax, at least they stock the streams for us, are they going to stock the ocean?

Re: Another Q & A on Free Registry
Just so I'm clear, is this guy having a Q&A with himself???
Regardless, the claim that creating and maintaining a state saltwater angler registry will cost $600K is LAUGHABLE. In fact, the DEP folks sent to testify before the Senate Budget Committee WERE openly laughed at when they claimed this would cost $600K to $1 million. Chairman, Sen. Paul Sarlo laughed at them and said he'd do it for 300!! For anyone worried about the cost of the free angler registry program I suggest (a) take a look at the size of the annual budget for NJ DEP and the number of DEP employees already on the state payroll; and (b) ask yourself how difficult is it to put a secure link up on the Division of Fish & Wildlife web site to collect names, addresses and telephone numbers of NJ's fishermen and put someone already on the state payroll in charge of this database??? The claims that this registry would cost $600K to $1 million are rediculous!! Typical bureaucratic BS. They don't have to hire independent contractors to handle this and they don't have to have the registry forms available at every point of purchase around the state. Follow the NMFS model (that's the first time I've ever said that!) already in place and get it done!

You're right, but it's our job to call them out on this one when we know it's total B.S. NJOA seems to think its our job to buy the DEP/Division of F&W B.S. and serve as beauracratic apologists. Perhaps that's because they've got a number of former State employees involved with their group???
