Exclamation Know your enemy....(Not safe for Liberals)

It's been awhile since I posted, but I think you should take five minutes to read this, seems some people would like to see fishing be outlawed.

Yes we can!

The new world order my @$$!

I'm just clinging to my guns and religion as long as I can.

Fishermen, Hunters anyone who enjoys the outdoors and wants to protect their right to access should all be on the same side on this issue. No more conservative, liberals, democrats or republicans just a whole bunch of Americans that are taking a stand together to protect their rights as Americans!

I can't agree more. My family has been in this country since 1655 as German and Dutch settlers. The Vreelands and the Whitackers have fought as leaders in every War including the Revolution!!!! I have ancestors who's names are still recognized as major players in the Fishing industry. AND I AM NOT A REPUBLICAN!!!!!!!

The powers that be count on this - us vs them mentality. It only serves to keep us from being united. Many on this board fail to realize how many in the recreational industry are former and current commercial fisherman. The regs may differ but our interests are the same. We should all unite!! Conservative Vs. Liberal, Commercial vs Recreational, it only serves to divide those with the same interests(from my point of view). Pointing the finger of blame serves no constructive purpose especially when the fight requires as many participants as you can get.

Conservation is NOT environmentalism. Teddy Roosevelt (a republican) is the Father of the conservation movement and he was also an avid and passionate hunter and outdoors man. Conservation means preserving the resource so that our descendants can enjoy the same opportunities that our ancestors enjoyed.

Good points made.

We can sometimes legitimately point to the commercial fishing industry and say that their regulations are more favorable than ours.

But it is becoming more apparent that our greatest threat are those that would like to put an end to fishing entirely. We've known for a while about groups like PETA and others and we've laughed and dismissed them as crackpots.

Lately though, we see people of their ilk finding their way into government leadership positions including NOAA and now this new presidential task force. Their voices are going to be heard loudly and in combination with faulty science, could have a significant impact and soon.

Marty,

Although you and I have differing opinions politically,we are both anglers and what we have in common is the love of angling. You just made some very good points and it is important that these issues not be mixed in with what party one typically votes for because once we lose something (like fair and decent fluke regs) it is not likely we'll ever get it back to where it once was.

Having followed the less than stellar exploits of the NMFS for over thirty years, it did not seem to matter who was president the organization itself (the NMFS) had an agenda to slant the quotas, regs and rules to favor commercial fishermen over sport fishermen. Unfortunately, the slanting and favoritism has only gained steam over time.

The increase in favoritism is a direct response to the abysmal failure of the NMFS, ASMFC and others to do a good job. They are asleep at the wheel and when they ruin a particular biomass (cod and whiting are prime examples)
through negligence, they punish rod and reel folks and try to mitigate the negative impact their awful performance has on commercials.

Faulty Science-Excellent Point Marty

The problem is when it is "faulty to extent that it usually is with the NMFS" it does not qualify as science-it is pure BS!

We need to lobby to have the methodology changed by which the various fisheries councils cook up the BS stew they call "science" and then we may have a fighting chance.

In short we are fighting an uphill battle so we need everyone to keep in lock step so we can minimize the negative impact of the lazy morons at the NMFS!

That really sounds scary.....I wondering if those closures would be anything like the massive santuary areas that fisherman where shut out of a few years ago.Talk about taking away our rights. It was unreal with one stroke of a pen a former president could take away thousands of square miles of fishing areas under the guise of a "santuary". Now that was total bs. I would like to take more than 5 minutes to read the quoted"recently published federal document" and better inform myself and not take some company spokesman word for it.. Anybody have a link to the paper.Anybody know what the goal of the "task force" was. Information without a spin is where I believe our true strength can come from. That will give the fishing community the strong common bonds ( love of fishing, access, ect ) that can unite us rather than political agendas and misinformation that can tear us apart. I have seen countless times in just the last few weeks massive amouts of wrong, incorrect and down right BS posted all over the net passed off as gospel along with some great very informitive and very accuate infromation. Although I do not not know if I share any of CaptTB or Capt Adams political views or even any social views thier post always seem to contain statments back by facts (with links). Give all the information and then I will decide. What would you call this group of people ... they have been fighting ocean sand mining, wind farms off our beaches,LNG projects off Sandy Hook, the massive slaughter of fish from nuke plant water intakes, and run off into our local water sheds..........."liberal enviormental wackos"or just concerned fisherman? I think it would depend on many things to decide such as who posted it,what site, what context, whats th authors true agenda, how much information was included or how much was left out. Sometimes a little research can give a totally differnt point of view(if one has an open mind).
