Surf report 9/28/22:
Hit the suds at Seaside Park for a fall shakedown. This is an early start for me, I usually don't start till around the end of October. Everything pretty much the same as last year except for picking up a new St. Croix surf rod. Dead low tide and skinny water made for some tough conditions but threw plugs to get the dust off everything anyway. Got skunked but watching the sun set was worth the price of admission. Now onto the new stick I just picked up, love it with one exception, the rod butt is a whopping 22 inches long !! The 10 foot rod is light and loads up nicely it's just the rod butt is too long for my style. I was thinking is cutting off 6 to 8 inches of the rod butt and replacing the rubber cap. I'm sure the thought of taking a hacksaw to a new St. Croix surf rod is enough to make anyone cringe but I think it will work. Any thoughts, please advise. Saw a fox walking onto the beach from the dunes as I was leaving in the dark. Hope to have a good surf season this year.
