GAMBLER --Striped Bass Reports

The last few days were really great weather. Lot's of striped bass around --all up and down the Jersey coast. They are plying the waters in big and small schools from the beach out to the line and beyond. On these calms days, it's easy to spot them splashing right one the surface, chasing sandeels and other baitfish.

We are catching bass from 25" to 50". However, they have been tricky to catch. We are landing some nice stripers every trip but you really have to work at it. The best lure for us has been 4oz A-47s with a tail. I don't think color matters that much. Casting those out and retrieving moderately fast works best. If you see the bass on top, you can let it sink for 20 seconds before reeling. Sometimes the captain will see marks near the bottom on the fish finder and the crew should let you know to drop the lure all the way down before bringing it back.

Young Parker Castoral was out with his dad for the first time yesterday and landed a 43.5" bass on a hammered green tail 4 oz! He is hooked!
