Default Blackfish Bobby and a Shiny New Weapon

Got early word from Blackfish Bobby that the new 6'6" 90K spin he had us build for his Van Staal VR50 is meeting expectations. Today was a nice break from the cold weather. Good day to be on the water!

Here is a link to a video from a little over a year ago of him with his 65K spinning rod. His new 90K is a little more powerful, which should allow him to handle the heavier jigs a little better.

How heavy of a jig do you use to fish that deep?

Thumbs up Re: Blackfish Bobby and a Shiny New Weapon

Hello Kevin
I was able to get the jig to where I needed it on the wreck with a 1.5 oz jig.
That's in 75 to 80 feet. 20 lb braid with 40 lb topshot.
There are times when the conditions are perfect to fish the lighter jigs in deeper water. We had that Friday. The blank I chose that you guys cut and built to my specs will fish up to 3oz jigs for tog (3/4 to 2oz optimal) and is also fantastic for "swimming" jigs for fluke.

Many ask me and have disputed my choice of 6'6" length ...... It is what feels most balanced in my hand and not top heavy....as you know in my specs for all my tog jigging rods I also extend the foregrip more than most for added balance, control and hook setting leverage on a big fish. This is catching on. Lastly.... I like the shorter rod for jigging tog since you get a lot less wind impact and can tuck the rod more easily along the boat out of the wind if needed.

The fact that I can go to your shop .... put 5 blanks in my hand and have you build it to the specs I like is priceless...
