Thumbs up Raritan river striped bass 4/16/19:

Hit the big water in Piscataway. 2 casts, 2 fish and that was it, so strange. Probably more fish around, always amazed how these fish see these lures in the dirty water. Beats sitting at the duck pond soaking power cheese for nub finned stocked trout. All fish released of course. Wonder why this river was never considered for the sea run brown trout program that lasted some 20 years. I took 3 ticks off my waders today, 2 dog ticks and 1 deer tick, The1 had 5 ticks on him the other day, be safe, have fun !!
(enjoy the crummy cell phone pics)

Yeah man, good morning Piscataway. I too was in the vicinity but stuck to the canal. Planned on casting into the river but opted not to. Banks too steep and muddy for my work clothes. Planning on hitting it up tomorrow afternoon in that area.

I found one on my rear view car mirror. last year had one on my visor. Shows how they naturally creep up to tall spots. Checking my body every day now regardless if i wasnt outside that day.

Nice stripes, hope the river brings out dome bigger ones soon.

Good work !

Last year I ran into a guy that had a big cooler, he had live stripers in it from the Raritan . He said he was putting them in the reservoir, but he wouldn't tell me which one! I wonder if they survived !

I know that guy, and I know the reservoir he's talking about. Someone I know that fishes that reservoir regularly never caught or heard of any stripers in there. So I guess it's not going that well. But still a chance? From what I understand he doesn't "transfer" any big ones just the small ones too.

Highly illegal to transfer fish from one water body to another as per NJF&W from what I understand.

As I remember it the only successful transfers were from the Santee Cooper reservoir. Others failed. This is from a very old memory.

Not only that, but these fish were far short of legal size!
