Default Round valley beatdown!!

Was able to get out this weekend with joe and Kayla. Ran a bunch of flatlines and some leadcore and had the wire down dragging the bottom for the lakers. We played catch and release with the lakers all day over 15 easy on small warrior spoons. Rainbows were favoring the rapalas and we limited out in them all nice holdovers 16-20”. Fished all along the edges and out to 60 feet and found them evreywhere. Now is definitely the time to get out there if you can. I was also talking to a few guys from shore and they were getting them so grab you gear and get on out there!

It is catch & release 9/16 - 11/30 which is their spawning season.

I questioned the continuation of this, over the concern with their overpopulation resulting in liberalization of the creel limit during the rest of the year. Wouldn't it also be prudent to harvest the large egg laden females and males when they are concentrated on their spawning grounds?

My suggestion fell on deaf ears.

I proposed the same question. If they wanted the lake trout to be harvested, then why have a closed season at all.

because like any other fish they can disappear in short order if you start catching and eating too many during the spawn.. a self sustaining population even if only partial is more desirable than strictly
'put and take'.

I think some states worry that lakers will decimate alewife populations in certain lakes and tend to liberalize bag limits on them.. They suck them down in staggering numbers.. lakers are also notorious for gobbling up large numbers of newly stocked Rainbows , Browns, and Landlocks. NY. Not sure if NJ's approach is any better or worse than other states , but it sure is different.. Load up big time for 9 months, and hands off for 3 months... weird.

Yesterday, casted a Yozuri from RVR's eastern shore: 2 SMB's,....which indicates the water temp. hasn't cooled sufficiently for trout to arrive inshore in numbers.
