If you see people catching fish and calling there friends to pick em up - Call Fish and Wildlife - call a game warden - cops -

All within the rules and regs = No Problem - Catch Kill It - Cook It

Give TRT a break. I don't know him or off him so nothing personal. His point isn't all wrong nor are the responses but people don't have to be @#$% !*&! in their replies. People are entitled to what they can keep, 100% agree. In a few weeks, we'll be seeing pictures of dozens of 30 to 50 lb. fish lying on the docks which has always bothered me but yes it's allowed. When the time comes where restrictions are put in place because of over harvesting or we go back to the 70's when you couldn't find an 18 inch bass, the same people who are bitching about TRT's post will be the same ones bitching about the restrictions! I believe the spirit of his post is we're all guardians of the resource and it's not always about how many fish you can throw on the dock and post pictures about at the end of the day. That's all the guy was trying to say and everyone jumps all over his shit for caring about the fishery. It's great to know you can post your opinion with such a kind and understanding audience!

Bring LAB back so he can do what, throw fuel on the fire once again about someone who wanted to share his opinion so that the board regulars can berate him!

Btw there's nothing wrong w subsistence fishing as long as no one is breaking the law. It's attitudes like this that take fishing catching and keeping away from us.

I don't know anyone who catches or keeps more than the legal limit, I keep (and eat) all the legal fish I catch, mostly because I love the taste of striper, so does Mrs. & the kiddies. I wouldn't call that "slaughter". If the bass are being pressured, isn't it up to DEC to change the regulations?

All apologies if I personally came off rude or gave you a hard time - you expressed your opinion and I expressed mine

I personally don't Stryper fish - but with all other species I fish within the rules and regs

BTW - wait until the really big slobs and cows start coming down - which I think will happen in the next 2 weeks - Those fish are over 40lbs +
Wait until then and what people will be writing

I see the reports here all the time... Boat floor or dock covered with bloody 15-20 pound stripers, and guys striking victory poses over the bodies for the digital camera. Guys go out, 3 or 4 times a week, limit after limit.. Fair enough, I wish I were able to. They "need" the fish to "feed family and friends" is a common theme expressed here..
If anyone says anything, they are castigated, and basically told to mind their own business. Yes we are all entitled to keep taking home big stripers day after day, as long as we stay within the state and federal possession laws..

I lived in Union Beach in the 80s... ANY striper was big news in those days.. For most anglers they simply didn't exist... It was hard long work to catch stripers of any size in those days, and few bothered to fish for them.... So here we are, the bass are back, and we take all we can keep with a clear conscience.. Fine.. In a few years, this intense hammering of the spawning stocks will takes its toll as it must, and anglers will blame everyone and every thing but themselves. A little self control really does go a long way, and the angry comments here from "sportsmen " is kind of puzzling..

I like this site but I have noticed something very odd..
Over in the freshwater section, the "bucket brigade" are ridiculed, dishonored and disliked for killing fish and taking them home to eat,yet here in the saltwater section, the guys with the largest piles of dead fish are hailed as conquering heroes..
I like eating fish as much as anyone, but do I REALLY need 100 pounds of stripers a week? every week, as long as they stick around??.. not me..
Some do I suppose..
Just don't say we weren't warned when the gravy train grinds to a halt...

By the way, Ling have been more and more scarce this past year.. who'd a thunk we would ever say ling are in trouble.. However, the writing is on the wall... Watch out for bag limits on Ling in the near future, but again, it not our fault.
Too many people killing too many fish.. pretty simple equation really.... bob
