A bit later getting this post up this year, but as I do every year on my dad's birthday, I got out for some trouting in the frigid waters of Hunterdon county. This year I had invited everyone to get out of their house and join in on the fishing, and was personally accompanied by Luke and Rachel.
We set out to the first spot of the day, which was a bust. Despite being a go to spot on past Send for Scott trips, we didn't see or move any fish. At spot number 2 we hiked a good distance both down and upstream in search of a bite. I got a hit or two, but Luke stuck a small brown. Rachel and I had our work cut out for us! Rachel is new to trout fishing, this being only her second time, but she was really picking it up. We stopped off for lunch in High Bridge at Circa, where we enjoyed some burgers and brews. We also had a nice conversation about mental health, which I really appreciated as it has always been in core message about the Send for Scott. Having lost my dad and brother to suicide, I know the importance of speaking up about your feelings and getting them off your chest. Spot number 3 came next, and Luke caught a few nice holdover rainbows. While he was showing Rachel his technique, she ending up hooking up into 2 fish of her own! It was a great day. I unfortunately skunked, but seeing Rachel hold her first ever trout was enough for me. Additionally, wanted to share that my wife and I are moving! She accepted a new position and it is taking us all the way to Washington State. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone on here for all the tips, tricks, camaraderie and friendships I've made just by posting on this site. I have met some life long friends on here, and I am so grateful for that. I'll be back in NJ from time to time as most of my family is still in the area, but for now I'll see you guys later. Hopefully you'll see some West Coast Salmon posts from me in the coming months Tight lines, and thanks again! |

Best of luck with the move. What part of Washington? In a prior job I used to spend a week a month out in the Seattle/Redmond area..

Thanks everyone! Going to be a big change but it's exciting and the fishing should be stellar.
About 2 hours north of there in the Bellingham area! |
