Lightbulb Re: IBSP Piping Plover closures

I reached out to the Federation: The response - here are the latest updates as of Saturday, June 28, regarding beach vehicle access restrictions on IBSP, based on current shorebird nesting activity.

Northern Natural Area (NNA)

· Pair 1 successfully hatched four chicks on June 24, all of which remain active. Date-based vehicle restrictions for this pair will continue until the chicks reach 35 days of age or do not survive.

· Pair 2 narrowly avoided flooding due to recent high tides. Their nest remains intact, with a projected hatch date of July 11. Because this pair shares territory near the Gillikin’s access, the full extent of vehicle restrictions will depend on the outcomes of both nests.

Southern Natural Area (SNA)

· Pair 1 has defied expectations, with all four chicks still thriving—a rare and significant success. If these chicks fledge successfully, vehicle restrictions in the area will likely be lifted on July 10. Should circumstances change before then, we will adjust accordingly.

· Pair 2 has not been observed on site this week and appears to have concluded nesting. If no further nesting activity is confirmed, the barrier in this area will also be removed on July 10, with no additional seasonal vehicle restrictions expected.

Pedestrian access remains open in both areas, and emergency response vehicles are exempt from these restrictions.

Unfortunately, the recreactional fishermens' political influence is lacking, to say the least. Politicians are concerned with raising money for the next election, that is all. Without a unified group with a lobbyist ($$$) in Trenton, nothing will change.

Recreational anglers are unorganized as I have stated many times. You would think the tackle manufacturers would at least chip and chime in.
