Default Weekend Wrap Up

Jason & I aboard our favorite NS party boat on Sunday. Upon arriving on the grounds, my first cast resulted in my first & largest fish of the day a plump #7 bluefish. A steady catch of #3-7 bluefish was jigged up through the first few hours. Around 11 AM we pushed off shore hoping to add some inshore speedsters to the catch. There was 1 nice sized bonito and a few bullet bonito caught as well as 1 false albacore and 1 Spanish mackerel but it was mostly more bluefish in the #2-4 class. Neither Jason or I caught any of pelagics. We each ended the day boating (& releasing) in excess of 30 bluefish. Vast majority fell for a plain A17 jig, we both caught a few on epoxy jigs in the 7/8 & 1.25 ounce sizes. I also caught 1 each on a #2 Deadly Dick and a 1 ounce Swedish Pimple. Jason had one on a Tsunami Split Tail. A few were caught on topwater by a few anglers around us.

Had thoughts about going again on Monday but the heat took its toll on me Sunday and didn’t feel like enduring it again. Monday’s catch was not as consistent with bluefish but there were a few more false albacore caught.

Nice report Doc.

You swap out the trebles on the small epoxies for a single? The trebles are such a pia to get out of a blue.

Definitely crush the barbs flat on the trebles. But still dicey to get out w/o pliers.

Actually both Jason and I were using Epoxy with a single inline hook and we both dropped/lost numerous fish after hooking up even though we kept pressure/tight to them the whole time. We did catch a. Few on the single hook but lost way more than landed. I eventually put on an epoxy with a treble.

Was actually thinking of switching out the single inclines and going back to trebles as a winter project. Going to give the single hook epoxies a few more chances and see .
