A lot of guys use crimps with circle hooks. I don't use either. If you're going to tie heavy mono, the uni knot is the best way to go.

I've been using 80 lb. Seaguar. I really don't think ya need it. What really works is super fresh bait strips, mackerel, or a lot of guys use salmon. I never had real good luck with bluefish.

X2 on salmon belly strips. Make sure they're thin though. Too much meat and it washes out and causes your rigs to spin

Salmon does work well. I have had pretty good success with bluefish as well. Like you said it has to be fresh. I have caught blue fish tile fishing and used as bait and it was great. i brought some blue fish from the store another time and they would not really touch it. Agree fresh is key.
