Jeremy sorry to read about you and your boy contracting the virus but thanks so much for sharing your story. People need to read your post and understand that even people who are well-intentioned and well-prepared are still at risk of being infected.

This isn't the common flu and if people don't start realizing that we're dealing with something the world has never dealt with before and start listening to science and world health leaders, this country is going to be in for a rude awakening if it's not already.

I wish you, your boy and your entire family the best making a full recovery. Take nothing for granted my friend as this virus can have lingering after effects as well. I hope and pray that people start to understand the severity of the health crisis we're dealing with as opposed to throwing caution to the wind and worrying only about their own personal agendas. That's only going to fuel the flames of what we're dealing with right now.

Wishes for a speedy recovery and thanks again for sharing your story. Certainly not an easy thing to do.

First I wish you and the family the best of health.
Second..Thank you for putting this out there. I am of very similar age, 2 kids both young men in high school. I have been slipping lately with the Covid-19 awareness. Not after reading your story, I am gonna start tidying up the ship a bit.
Again thanks for sharing & hope you bounce right back.

Wishing you a continued recovery. If you did happen to feel very bad again, mainly with difficulty breathing or your chest feeling heavy and being even more tired don’t be ashamed to go right to the ER or call an ambulance— from accounts of others in your age range that doesn’t always happen but it could be bad news and not a time to be “tough”.

You very likely have covid, and there is no point in getting retested.
My career has been spent judging odds and understanding probabilities. Explanation below for those interested. This is an application of something called Bayes Theorem if you want to look it up...
While big fishy is right about the rate of false positives leaving a lot to be desired, the rate of false negatives means that:
GIVEN your specific symptoms(including loss of taste) & your positive test & the symptoms of your son & his positive test & the timing of your symptoms THEREFORE it’s highly likely you have covid
AND THEREFORE even if you were retested and came back negative, because there are false negatives, one would still conclude, given everything else we know, that you have covid and this is simply a false negative.

Before this occurred we knew zero people who had covid-19, or who were at least positive asymptomatic. That's the scary part. Half the people with it show zero signs. I couldve simply walked by that person in an aisle or parking lot or wherever and one micro droplet made it's way into my body or my son's body. We'll never really know.

My aim was to show the reality of the prevalence covid-19 remains to have. It's not going away. NJ did it right, but I fear we're backing off restrictions too soon. If trump took this seriously in December when europe warned the US, or in January when the first case was documented, would we be having this conversation? Would I have gotten sick?

Too late for that. Its here. Be prepared. Forecasters predict 70 to 80% of the US population contracting it. Herd immunity isnt a bad thing. A good vaccination would be better. Eradication is far superior. I'm hoping the brunt was delivered to me and me alone, that my family feels minor symptoms or is asymptomatic. Not falling on the sword or being hero, I dont want anyone to feel like I did or worse. Not here in my house, or in any of your homes.

Thanks for the well wishes. You're good people. My post seems to have accomplished it's intended purpose. Be safe out there and when I recover, I'll get back to doing what I love...

feel better bro and as always open invite if you want to fish in the new boat when you feel up to it.

hopefully people start understanding that this, like all viruses, will run it's course and people can only slightly minimize there chances of exposure to it. I've heard many stories like yours and I just hate that people are hindering their immune systems stressing over the fear from this because, in the end, the natural immune response is going to be the best bet to end up ok.

people rely way too heavily on med tech and then something like this happens and people don't know what to do... so they listen to politicians and their puppet experts?? it's disturbing imo...
