Some time ago, the NJ State Record Black Crappie from a private farm pond was purported to be a pet fish. It was caught hook & line.

Hook & line, and bow fishing, are the only 2 legal methods of take for NJ State Freshwater Records.

Bow fishing, hook & line, spears (not mechanically propelled for certain species, Del. River only) are the only legal methods of take. Noodling is illegal.
