Andy yeah the bugs can be bad out there, usually worse from shore than in the boat but I've gotten bit on the boat pretty bad before too. That day wasn't bad though. And, if you go out at night without the spray, good luck!!!  Thymorke, I always use 50-60# flouro leader in the river. Never know when a nice pike could hit whatever you're throwing and you definitely don't want to lose it... Also, doesn't seem to keep the other fish from hitting. It can make topwater lures a bit more challenging though...... Cardinal, these were pretty ideal conditions. Low, but not too low, and clear. Other than bluebird skies and heat, couldn't have been much better.
