I've had bad luck with the telescoping rods. They always seem to immediately break or just fall apart. Lately, when I vacation I take a Bass Pro Shops Extreme Travel Rod. (I don't see it in the online catalog, so they may no longer sell it.) It's a three-piece rod that fits into a hard case. It's one short-coming is a three piece rod in a case can still be pretty big when you're trying to pack light. When I replace it, I might buy a four-piece rod because the case will be shorter and easier to pack. Like this Browning Fishing Safari Travel Rod: http://www.basspro.com/Browning-Fish...1407030701442/ I had something like this Daiwa Ultralight Kit when I was a little kid to take to camp. I may buy it again to take on hiking trips: https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-System-...awa+travel+rod . .
