Big, big Trout lake! Troll spoons back and forth if you can! Browns, Rainbows, Lakers and Salmon! Some good Pike and Bass fishing in the shallow areas this time of year! Stay away from the wine trail or the catching may not work out so well, haha! The Trout should still be cruising fairly shallow this time of year! GOOD LUCK DUDE!

if UR unfamiliar with deep trolling for trout & not used to fishing a thermo UR better off fishing bass in shallow lake areas ! Plenty around & good time of year
to pursue. This is what I would concentrate on since deep trolling rhose lakes is an art & speciality tackle required .
These finger lakes are big & deep so trolling techniques used on Gt Lakes are very similar , either Ld core, wire or DR's if ur not set up , I'd gather local info & go for bass , pike panfish etc.

Thank you guys for the info and wishes....it's not strictly a fishing trip and I'll probably be happy just fishing for bass in the shallows for relaxation since we've been working 7 days a week.... I'll go check a local tackle shop for some intel and just go out and have some fun!!!

No big lakers in there that I've ever heard about but lots and lots and even more average 20-24" lakers

That's been my experience also. Maybe big lakers in other Finger Lakes??

There has been a few big Lakers caught there you 2 dingleberrys! Not saying the place is stacked with huge Trout! My reply for thread meant it was a big lake for trolling Trout, "Multiple Species!" Next time I'll clarify! I got spooled fishing off a dock there 10 years ago!!!! After getting spooled, myself and my uncle landed a few limits of Lakers on the good ole Johnson Minnow tipped with a white mister twister! Oh and a big ole Brown! TIGHT LINEZ SPLITSHOT!!!! Hope ya find what your looking for!!!!!!

Gotcha, I see how the post reads. Will say I know there are big Carp in there. 40+lbs maybe that's what spooled you bit only a guess.

I thank you all again for your thoughts and experience with the lake.... I've never been up there but now I have an idea of what to bring and I'll report back if there's any action and the main reason is RELAXATION and Catching will certainly by a BONUS!!! 4 of us plus our 2 dogs piled in the truck and heading North!! I fish Keuka ... Fished it a few weeks ago,never had a hit.. It is NOT a good lake for Browns, Rainbows or Salmon... Guys that live on the lake don't even catch them, but there are a few still living in the lake.. It was very good at one time, but the sawbelly[Herring] population has collapsed, and decimated the population of those species.. There are a lot of smallish Lake trout there, and they can be caught trolling and jigging, but they aren't evreywhere, and you need to find them.. There is good smallmouth, pickerel and pan fishing as well, and you may get a Largemouth if you fish weedy areas at the north end of the lake,, These are NOT easy lakes to fish, and IMHO are over rated.. The fish are scattered and suspended, usually following suspended bait pods.. You will need a good depth finder. Also, they get a a bazillion hot rod boaters and jet skiers on warm summer weekends.. Fish early or late in the days, and find the fish on your fish finder, and drop jigs down.. You will need jigs of an ounce or more as the fish can be as deep as 150 feet down.. Sometimes, 100, or 90 feet, but these fish have access to VERY deep water and use it.. Other times they may be as shallow as 25 feet depending on the day, and weather conditions... Keuka is a very nice lake, but is entirely surrounded by homes, [ and mansions], and gets hit pretty hard these days.. best bet is panfish around the shorelines, smallmouths and pickerel as well, eaqrly mornings and evenings, or lakers out deep with heavy jigs, or jigging spoons..AVA jigs will catch them as well.. I have caught plenty of them on 1 or 2 oz. AVAs.. I used to fish Keuka a lot, and had days I jigged 30 or more lakers, but at least for me its no longer like that.. Its a beautiful lake, but has been hit hard by fishing pressure and environmental issues for the past decade or so...Best method of catching lakers is trolling deep with downriggers if you have them.. These lakers are stunted however, and a 5 pounder is a pretty big one at Keuka.. Let us know how you make out, and best of luck!... bob
