Yeah a bunch of people have pointed me towards round valley/monksville/hopatcong but they're all about an hour and change from me making them more of a weekend day trip than an afternoon excursion.

Looking at the stocking for channels Barbours pond/Dahnerts/Lower Passaic River are all I can seem to find within a 30 minute radius of Paterson that I can fish regularly. I've been skunked at Dahnerts and twice at Barbours so for now this is the best I got.

Nice!

I see guys at pompton lake all the time. Dunno how the catfish are but there's pike and bass. Shouldn't be an awful drive. Also the ramapo man lake be worth a trip

Pompton should turn up some cats. Check out Terhune Park, not a long ride from Paterson right up Hamburg Tpk. There is also a stretch just below the Pompton dam where you can fish from shore. I'm sure some big fish have washed over that dam over the years.

Try fishing just below the falls at the Dundee Dam on the Passaic. And by just below, I mean practically in the foam. I've caught a few of my best Channel cats there using crayfish caught right there around that island. Everything washes over that dam to feed them. You might hook a monster (or a shopping cart, or a spare tire, or Jimmy Hoffa).
