I have an 8' Reel Seat Custom Tile Fish Rod and absolutely love it

That said, my buddy fishes a Shakespeare Ugly Stick BWB 1120 - 8' rod and has no complaints - it gets the job done. It's in a whole different class than the custom Reel Seat rod but still solid for the price point.

Depends on how you plan to fish for them. If you are going to just put the rod in a rod holder, wait for a bite and then "push" the button, I would recommend a bent butt. If you want to be more hands on and hold the rod and feel the bite then go with a straight butt rod. I designed the Reel Seat tile rods based on my own experiences tilefishing. They would be my first choice. The Shakespeare 1120-8 is adequate but falls short when you need more then 36 ounces of lead.
