40lb cod? Either fish every fishable day in those two months off NJ or LI or get a time machine. It is very rare to see a large cod anymore. Not many around and all the spawning aggregations are closed to fishing.

Your timing is about rite if it happens, but you gotta listen man..

The other option is spend some big bucks and go to Norway. Jumbo cod and halibut on swimbaits.
