Funny story on the nesting Plovers on Sandy Hook..... Every year for her birthday, I take my daughter and her friends out on the boat for a day of fun. Last year we decided to anchor up close to the beach just inside the false hook. I set the anchor close to shore and a few of the girls decided they'd like to jump in and wade to shore to take a walk on the beach.... As soon as they set foot on shore it was like the park police went into DEFCON 5. All of a sudden 2 SUVs came out of nowhere and proceeded to tell them they were not allowed in the area.... I found it pretty ironic that they were driving 2 ton SUVs on the nesting grounds to shoo off a few 100 pound girls that were endangering the Plovers To add insult to injury, the girls went to get back in the water to wade back to the boat and were told that they couldn't because it was too dangerous because they were not wearing life jackets, in 3 feet of calm water They ended up loading them all up into the SUVs and dropping them off at Horseshoe cove where I had to go to pick them up. Don't mess with the Plovers Rammie.... You might end up in the clink.
