I did the compression test yesterday and it ok! 100 psi in all 6 cylinders plugs all looked in good shape! Started boat up after test had a little cough while warming up so I gave her some throttle and usual it clears right up! Next will be clean fuel from a can

hook , check heres a couple things to check , the if you have a sensor on the fly wheel , look at the teeth of the wheel that the sensor counts to tell the timing . sometimes the paint chips and it throws off the sensor you may need to file it down to be even on all teeth . also check the coil packs and make sure each one is working properly , the best I can tell you is the coughing and sneezing are misses , when firing more throttle you give better spark thus more fuel being burned instead of dumped .

HI...We normally don't use a computer on them. Theyre pretty simple motors until you get into the Optis/Verados. Most of the time its effed up carbs and rings. Ignition issues are easy to diagnose ie coil packs/timing etc. Bring it by and we can take a look at it. The good news is that that series of motors is pretty good.

mine is fuel injected , with an efi computer and ignition computer. a computer reader is needed and can tell me faults , how many hours are on the motor , and various things like how long it was ran @ 2k rpm how long @ 5K RPM ....Im looking for a person who can read the technical info off the computers .... dyno can amp the computer give more air to fuel mix and different things to tune it up. at this point I wish I had a carb engine , make things a lot easier
