Question Spring mackerel run ?

I remember as a kid my dad taking me out on the party boats in April and early May for mackerel, they seemed endless as burlap sacks were over flowing. Is the East Coast mackerel run no more ?

yes I miss that allot.my dad and grandfather would take me and my brother.we would only keep 30,20 would go to my grandfather and we would keep 10.the rest we would give away.a 4oz Bridgeport and a 4 teaser rig.as we started getting older my dad would let us bring the ultra lights with 6lb test
and a small Bridgeport jig that was molded to a single hook.what a blast,it was like bonito fishing.of coarse we could only do it when the crowd was light.
the whiting would be under them at times along with cod.we only had to run to the Klondike.

Now this brings back memories, used to run to the Klondike with my Dad and his best friend, was a lot of fun on those old mackeral rigs, would get 3,4 & 5 at a time. As a kid it was great fun. :-)

Has been 20 plus years since I did the jig for Mackerel!!! I remember April into May was mack time then the blues would push the macks to the north and then take over for the summer.

I remember catching and releasing 55 Boston mackerel on a metal and teaser one evening in April on the Manasquan Inlet north jetty many years ago. That will never happen again.
